Focusrite grew out of a 1985 request from Beatles producer Sir George Martin to well-known pro-audio designer Rupert Neve. He was asked to design a series of no-compromise modules, beginning with a microphone preamplifier and equaliser, for Air Studios in Montserrat and then in London.
The result, named the Input Signal Amplifier (ISA) series, proved extremely popular, and remains so today. Launched in 1988, the Focusrite Forte console, also based on these designs, was the highest quality console available at the time.
Audio industry veteran Phil Dudderidge purchased the company’s assets in 1989, reissuing the original modules along with new designs and the renowned Focusrite Studio Console, released in 1990. The legendary Red Range, echoing the original ISA designs and more, made the company’s name in the 1990s, and the descendants of those designs are still in the catalogue today. In 2000 Focusrite designed the first of its award-winning computer audio interfaces. These are now the core area for the company and, like Focusrite’s other products, widely lauded by the world’s leading engineers, producers and musicians.

Founded in 1992, Novation is often credited for creating the first dedicated MIDI controller: the MM10. The popular Bass Station and Drum Station analogue synths followed this. They were then joined by their first technical director, Chris Huggett, who had worked on the initial products in his spare time: his first big project at Novation was the Supernova, which rapidly became a go-to synthesizer for artists of the time. Success continued with the Nova and SuperNova II. Novation became part of the Focusrite family in August 2004.
With the increasing importance of software in the synthesiser field, Novation expanded its range of keyboard controllers and other innovative control surfaces for musicians and producer/performers, fully integrated with powerful software to form the perfect range of gear to play, create and perform music.

When we design a studio monitor we always start with the question “what does the customer really want from their monitor?” The usual terms get thrown around like accuracy, reliability, precision, and many more marketing buzzwords. Important words about what the product should be…but not necessarily speaking to what users really need. A product they can trust! Engineers and Artists need products they can put their faith in. KRK Systems was founded in 1986, by Keith Klawitter. He had been an engineer for years working on such films as “Brainstorm” and “The Doors”. Frustrated by the fact he couldn’t find a monitor that gave him clarity and accuracy, he began building his own monitors. Other engineers and producers began to take notice of Keith’s high-end studio monitors, a groundswell began and a company was born. They also began commissioning him to build custom main systems as well. We attribute this remarkable beginning to Keith’s affinity for electronics, his passion for music, and his originality and insight. Great sound doesn’t start with the studio, the microphone or the latest wiz-bang sampling device. It starts in the heart, and it starts with the truth… the very essence of the KRK design philosophy.
